Her approach is as eclectic as it is kinetic: new single Pressure is caramel-smooth pop older number Big Racks merges extremely wonky synth bass with taut drums that nod to old-school funk and hyperpop, while the beat-heavy hip-hop of ATM features the kind of sharp hooks and joyous bounce that recall the heyday of Missy Elliott (who guests on the recorded version). I honestly cannot wait for her next concert and song releases.Growing up in a Hackney household soundtracked by her father’s Ghanian highlife music and her mum’s heavy rotation of MTV icons such as Kelis and Lil’ Kim has clearly rubbed off on Runway. However, this concert has left me with s uch fun and exhilarating memories of the awe-inspiring, Michelle Obama – approved artist who is only just starting her journey. I was quite sad that the concert ended after this song as myself and many other people were left desperately wanting more. Her devotion clear ly touched Bree so much that she allowed her to perform the encore with her. The final song s h e performed was HOT HOT – so popular that it received an encore where she bought a fan on stage who ’d travelled all the way from Dublin to Birmingham to attend the concert having not wanted to reschedule it again. We were even gifted with an amazing guitar solo from one of her band members. Being on e of the more romantic songs in her discography it s eemed a fitting choice to start the closing of the concert almost like a love letter to her fans that she cares about so dearly. ROLLS ROYCE was the next song before leading into the penultimate song All Night. Continuing the set list, she performed another one of her biggest hit’s ATM, however a whole acapella version of the first verse and chorus was performed by the entire venue initially, after Bree prompted us with four simple words “Do you like money?”. We are greatly anticipating its official release. This was a very heartfelt pop ballad which had all of us in the crowd swaying our arms from side to side under the mellow blue lights. Next, she decided to debut a brand-new unreleased single called Somebody Like You. She then moved on to sing a few of my favourites Big Racks and GUCCI. As well as a very talented singer, rapper and musician she’s proven to be a n amazing dancer as her stage presence held us in ti ght grip whilst dancing with her crew. The popstar seemed hugely impressed with the energy levels from the start and how full the venue was, stating that we were livelier than the previous concert in Manchester !Īfter the short intermission she moved onto to perform her latest single Pressure. On stage, Bree made an effort to interact with the crowd in a light and cheerful way, curio u s to know what a genuine Birmingham accent sounded like as she stated it was her first time in the city, she consulted some (very lucky!) members of the audience with great humour. Sh e kicked off the concert with her powerful headbangers A PES ** T and L ITTLE N OKIA from her mixtape which kept the energy levels high, whilst e veryone in the crowd was chanting all the lyrics as if they had written the song s themselves. Prior to her arrival the crowd had been chanting “BREE! BREE! BREE!” in anticipation – a sure sign of an already excitable fanbase. Īs soon as the band came on the stage and played the beginning r iffs of the first song, screams erupted from the audience and crescendoed as Bree stepped onto the stage in a striking red outfit. A fter the immense success of her debut mixtape 2000AND 4EVA her latest singles HOT HOT and Pressure. This is the BET Award winner ’ s first tour which spans across Manchester, Birmingham and London. I must say we definitely g a ve the up-and-coming superstar the energetic crowds that she deserves. Bree Runway had reached the halfway point of her debut tour in Birmingham last Friday () on the top floor of the O2 In s titute.
