So much TV aimed at young adults talks down to their target audience but not this. Of course, this is Alex Rider, so things get dramatic (and basically catch fire) very quickly and our favourite teen spy is soon dragged back into the world of espionage after catching a glimpse of an old enemy. Season two starts almost immediately after the explosive end of season one, with Alex trying to handle the trauma of the events at Point Blanc by going on a nice holiday to Cornwall. I laughed at the idea of a young adult show being anywhere near as watchable - and ended up blown away.Īlex Rider season one was one of the TV highlights of 2020 for me, so season two had a lot to live up to. We'd just finished watching Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime Video and up came an 'if you liked that you should try this' recommendation to watch Alex Rider. I watched it at the point of lockdown where it felt like nothing much was coming out and life was death by a thousand episodes of The Chase (I like Bradley Walsh, I think most people do, but not that much). The first season was a lockdown highlight for many, including me, and actually a bit of a surprise. If you're not familiar with our eponymous hero, Alex Rider (played by Otto Farrant) juggles life at sixth form with going undercover for a shadowy subdivision of MI6 into places where adults can’t go. Alex Rider is back and, as ever, trouble isn't far behind.
